Altura is a gorgeous beach resort in the far east of the sun-sizzled Algarve, not far from the border with Spain. It's a lovely little picturesque seaside town with whitewashed low-rise buildings and a slow pace of life. It has huge golden beach that wouldn't look out of place in a travel brochure.

Altura holidays will suit families, couples and small groups looking for a relaxing beach break in the baking sunshine of the Algarve. The resort is just over 55km from Faro Airport, so transfers will take around 40 minutes.

Beach life...

Extending for miles both east and west, Altura's beach stunning beach is typical of the famous Algarve coastline. It's very broad and backed by rolling green scrubland and trees. The sands are silky and golden that gradually give way to the clear waters of the Gulf of Cadiz. The beach is well-equipped with sun beds and parasols, while its size means it's easy to find your own quiet sunbathing spot.

Golf & getting active...

If you want to get active on your Altura holiday, watersports are available including windsurfing, jet-skiing and waterskiing, plus snorkelling and scuba diving. The Algarve has long been the golf holiday destination of choice in Europe and Altura is no exception. There are five first-class courses within easy reach of the resort, including a Jack Nicklaus course at Monte Rei. As well as, the renowned championship course at Quinta do Vale, designed by the late Seve Ballesteros.

Laid-back evenings...

Altura enjoys a laid-back beachy vibe which extends into the evenings. If you're looking for a lively night out on the town, Faro or Monte Gordo are probably the best places to go. However, there's a certainly a great choice of restaurants, especially the friendly little local places offering freshly caught seafood. There's also a good range relaxed bars where you can unwind with a drink in the evenings.
