Sitting upside down at the bottom of the world, Australasia is just about the farthest away destination for British holidaymakers possible. With this in mind, you'd expect it to have something pretty special down there. And it does-

Sometimes described as the 'world's largest island and smallest continent', Australia is an immense land where under an infinite sky lie red dusty Outback expanses, dramatic mountain ranges, vast and starkly beautiful deserts, unique wildlife, coral reef rainforests, colossal rock formations and thousands of miles of perfect beaches on every coast.

Australia is the ultimate travel destination. A holiday Down Under caters for all types of holidaymaker-beach bums, families, cultural city breakers, wine buffs, wildlife-lovers, eco-tourists, Outback explorers, skiers, scuba divers, sky divers, surfers, luxury jet-setters, backpackers, beach-barbequers, crocodile hunters and cricketers. Anything else you can think of? Australia likely does that too. No worries.

Usually found near the top of the 'world's greatest cities to live in' lists, dazzling Sydney is Australia's top tourist draw. Easily one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it is home to the Opera House, the most spectacular harbour in the world with its famous bridge and countless magnificent beaches.

Melbourne is one of the southern hemisphere's great cities of culture. A cosmopolitan and eclectic city, Melbourne is world-class in music, arts and dining, enjoying a laid-back, instantly-likable atmosphere.

Cairns, in the northeast, is a lively party town and adventure sports hotspot. Most importantly it's the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, the greatest reef system on Earth.

You'll likely see it from the aeroplane window on your way to Sydney or Melbourne, but nothing compares standing next to it. The colossal red bulk of sacred Uluru or Ayer's Rock is jaw-dropping; it stands 348 metres high and is 9.4km in circumference, and made completely of natural sandstone. The vivid sunsets over Uluru are an unforgettable experience.

Lively Brisbane is the place to go for trips to Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island, and also a fun, happening city in its own right. From here you can drive to Airlie Beach, the gateway to the famous 74-island archipelago of the heavenly Whitsundays.

New Zealand is a land of surreal beauty and jaw-dropping diversity. So geographically diverse that in one afternoon's drive you could pass tranquil unspoilt beaches, navigate subtropical jungles, go through snowy mountain passes, before coming across flat panoramas of pastoral farmlands, ending at the breathtaking coastline, this time rugged and volcanic.

The Land of The Long White Cloud offers more still; it's the world capital of ecotourism, the world capital of adventure sports and a cosmopolitan melting pot of cultures.

The smaller North Island is home to New Zealand's biggest and most exciting city, Auckland-a multicultural metropolis of European, Maori and Polynesian influences with a buzzing nightlife and spectacular harbour. On the south coast, the laid-back capital, Wellington, is rich in culture with excellent museums and galleries and a top dining scene. Past the cities, you can enjoy the scenic resort of the Bay of Islands, discover endless pristine and empty beaches or unwind in the thermal pools of Rotarua.

Packed within the small borders of the South Island is a bewildering range of scenery. A wild and dramatic land famed for the jagged, snowcapped peak of Mount Cook, the colossal glaciers of Franz Josef and Fox, lush national parks full of wildlife and magnificent fjords like Milford Sound, where dolphins and whales can be found.

Christchurch, The Garden City, is the island's largest city and is awash with relaxed colonial charm, whilst famous Queenstown is the nation's skiing and adrenaline-activity epicentre. Here you can indulge passions for the extreme with bungee jumping, whitewater rafting, canyoning, skydiving, hang gliding and just about everything else you could image can be enjoyed here.
