A traditional village set against a backdrop of breathtaking scenery, Rauris is the ultimate Austrian resort for beginners and families. Set in the beautiful Hohe Tauern National Park, the ski area offers long wide blue runs for confident beginners and more challenging red runs for early intermediates wanting to sharpen up their technique. With gentle nursery slopes easily accessible at both the base and top of the gondola, this is a resort ideally suited to beginners and families - not just for the amount of easier runs but also the sheer convenience of it all. The village began life as a goldmining settlement and has developed into a charming, typically Austrian ski resort. The attractive church dominates the village centre, surrounded by shops, restaurants and a few bars that fill as the slopes empty. Although not a lively town, there is plenty for non-skiers wanting to enjoy the walking and the mountain atmosphere off the slopes.
Rauris Creche and Ski Kindergarten
Rauris is a fantastic resort for children with its choice of gentle slopes and great programme of children's activities. It also offers resort-run childcare options for skiing and non-skiing children.
SKIING CHILDREN: As well as group ski lessons for children from 4 years, the ski school offers a ski kindergarten for children 2-5 years (children must be potty trained), where specially trained staff encourage the little ones to play and have fun in the snow. Sessions run 10am-12pm and 1pm to 3pm - lunch and lunchtime supervision is available. Places can be pre-booked through Neilson.
NON-SKIING CHILDREN: There is an English-speaking resort-run creche situated in the resort centre which will accept children from 1 year. Nappies and baby milk must be provided by parents if necessary. Places can be organised locally on arrival or pre-booked directly through the ski school by telephoning 00 43 6544 7900.
