Bulgaria's first winter sports resort, modern Borovets is a purpose built village, with a lively atmosphere and equal emphasis on sport and entertainment. On the Rila Mountains northern slopes, its three ski areas cover 40km of piste, easily accessed by a good lift system. Hotels provide pools, gyms, saunas and a bowling alley, and bars and disco's blend with folklore events. Borovets is brilliant for beginners and has a ski kindergarten.

BEGINNERS - (Excellent) The resort really comes into its own with absolute beginners. A good ski school soon has them on their feet and by the end of the week novices are confident enough to tackle the Sitnyakovo's gentle slopes.

INTERMEDIATES - (Average) A dozen or so good reds to challenge various levels. Begin with the 3 mile ride on the Yastrebets gondola and descend on the sunny slopes of the Moussala basin or twist and turn through the trees to the village.

ADVANCED - (Limited) The only real test of the experts skills is the World Cup run on the Yastrebets.

SNOWBOARDERS - (Limited) Scope is limited for the experienced boarder, but this is a good place to learn and sample the sport. The Lev can be bought in the UK, although the official policy imposes restrictions on the import and export of local currency. Travellers cheques are accepted, although commission is high and credit cards are not accepted widely. please note: There is no cashpoint in Borovets. We also recommend that ski packs are Pre-booked in the UK, due to the high prices that are charged locally in resort.
