Gumbet sits on the Bodrum Peninsula just across the Aegean from the Greek island of Kos. It's an attractive Mediterranean retreat that makes a good alternative to the bigger Bodrum Town, ten minutes away. It's a family-friendly resort, with one of the best beaches in the area, and a lively nightlife scene.

Gumbet beach...

The beach is a well-known spot on the coast. It's Blue Flag-awarded, and curves for a golden kilometre or so around the clear, shallow waters of the Aegean. It's a classic Mediterranean setting: laid-back and ideal for relaxing in the sun and enjoying water sports or scuba diving.

Lining the beach are lots of nice restaurants and bars, plus some well-positioned beachfront hotels. There are plenty of free sun loungers, but you're expected to order your cocktails from the café that they're in front of. Seems like a good deal.

Explore Gumbet...

It's a lush town, surrounded by green Mediterranean scenery, with rolling hill and deep valleys in the background. With the beach at your back, you can explore the Gumbet winding streets looking for tucked away little café-gems among the whitewashed buildings. We really recommend trying local fast-foods like 'Turkish pizzas' - pides. They're not really pizzas but flatbreads topped with all manner of tasty ingredients.

Family fun...

If you're on holiday in Gumbet with the family, you can treat them to a day out at nearby Aquapark, with plenty of slippery slides and chutes. Bodrum Town has masses of family entertainment too, so jump in a cab there and see what you can find.

In the evenings...

Apart from the gorgeous beach, the other thing Gumbet is known for is the nightlife. All the action takes place on the aptly-titled Bar Street; you can never accuse the Turks of not being straight to the point. This is a pretty lively area with some of the best partying on the peninsula, although it's welcoming for families too. There's a bunch of boisterous bars and neon-lit clubs, while live bands are especially popular.
