Beach holidays to Hawaii 2013...
A sundrenched island cluster and the 50th state of America Hawaii is possibly the most famous tropical paradise in the world. Rising out of the heart of the Pacific with dramatic volcanic peaks, Hawaii is lavished with extravagant beauty and enjoys near-eternal sunshine.
On a holiday to Hawaii you'll discover some of the world's most idyllic beaches with skyscraper waves that have turned this small archipelago into part of surfing folklore, and volcanic sands that veer between gold, red and black. A land of blue lagoons, swaying palms, deep gorges and ravines, thick jungle and mighty volcanoes awaits you.
Oahu is the most populous island in Hawaii, and home to the cosmopolitan melting pot capital, Honolulu Enjoying a chilled out surf vibe, jaw-dropping beaches and a vibrant nightlife, Honolulu is the only real city in Hawaii. Rivalling Bondi Beach as the most famous stretch of sands in the world, a visit to the iconic Wakiki beach in Honolulu is a must for any holiday to Hawaii.
Honolulu is also the home of historic Pearl Harbour, which is perfect for those wanting to combine a little history with their Hawaiian beach break.
On the gorgeous east coast, the resort of Kailua is a charming, blissful place with plenty of great water sports and diving on offer, whilst it is also close to several national parks. If it's surfing you're after on a Hawaii holiday, head to the north shores, where you'll find some of the most colossal waves in the world.
The second largest island, Maui although quieter than Oahu enjoys plenty of lively entertainment and is home to numerous luxury resorts and sublime beaches. Lahaina is the island's capital and hosts a great range of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants, as well as excellent museums.
Scenic Wailea on the south coast is home to some of Hawaii's most upmarket accommodation. Ka Anapali is home to the famous Black Rock - an integral part of local mythology, and several perfect sandy beaches.
Top beaches on the island include crescent-shaped Napili, Makena (Big Beach) and the black-volcanic sands of Waianapana State Park.
The Big Island...
The largest and most volcanic Hawaiian island, the Big Island is the perfect Hawaii holiday destination for those who want to explore the rugged, awe-inspiring landscapes on offer. Situated in the world famous Volcanoes National Park, the Big Island is home to the most active volcano in the state, Kilauea.
For those in search of a little luxury on their beach holiday, the glamorous northwest coast resort of Waikoloa is the place to go, whilst Kona is probably the liveliest resort on the island and features a string of top beaches. The capital Hilo is also worth visiting and is home to numerous cultural and historical attractions. Top beaches include west-facing Hapuna Beach, which enjoys beautiful sunsets; Papakolea Beach, which features green volcanic sands (yes green!); and Punaluu Beach Park, which is home to various endangered species of sea turtle.
The most northerly island, and amongst the most lush, serene and romantic, Kauai is perfect for couples and honeymooners who want to escape the crowds. The wild natural splendour of this island is breathtaking, with the dramatic Waimea Canyon a definite highlight. Poipu is the island's most bustling town and the ideal setting for dinner or to try your hand at some fun activities. Top beaches include the picture-perfect Hanalei Bay Beach, the embodiment of Hawaii and the family-friendly Poipu Beach.
If you're looking for something even more tranquil and secluded, then the quiet, heavenly islands of Molokai and Lania may be the right choice for you. Spend laid-back days lazing on a sandy beach or swimming in the crystal clear Pacific waters.
