Beaches

Playa de Palma's beach reaches 6km, consisting of soft, silken sand gently shelving into the azure Mediterranean Sea. It has a Blue Flag award for cleanliness, and the promenade that runs alongside it has plenty of little shops, eateries and bars that light up as the evening goes on. Along the whole stretch are over a dozen numbered 'Balnearios', which are small beach huts that provide showers, toilets and refreshments. You'll often see touts wandering the beach selling snacks, trinkets and dodgy-looking watches, but if you'd rather be left alone you can easily wave them away.

Places to see

The Palau de l'Almudaina in Palma de Mallorca was originally a Moorish palace, converted to a gothic palace by King Jaime II after the 13th Century conquests. It stands beautifully preserved and still reserved for the King of Spain's official visits, but thankfully open to the public for viewing too. Opposite the palace are some beautifully-maintained botanic gardens which are also well worth a look during your holiday to Playa de Palma.

Eating Out

There are plenty of places to eat when on holiday in Palma de Palma and venues come and go seasonally - so just follow your nose to the next eatery - you're bound to find a mix of traditional trattorias, western-orientated restaurants, tapas bars, Italian restaurants and the ubiquitous Chinese, Indian and fast-food places along the lengthy waterfront. One mainstay is the Can Torrat restaurant, which serves Mediterranean fare in its sunny, family-friendly venue. Come here for a great menu choice with agreeable prices.

Shopping

You will find everything you need for your Playa de Palma holiday along the stretch of promenade, including of course, the trinkets, leather goods and novelty t-shirts and such that epitomise popular Majorca resorts. There are also several minimarts as well as supermarkets if you need stocks for your self-catering holiday in Majorca. For some serious shopping, head to Palma for the day, where you'll find a great range of boutiques, gadget shops, little markets and other sundry stores.

Nightlife

Playa de Palma lights up at night, with numerous beachside bars and more some in the surrounding area. The resort has been popular with German and Northern European tourists for years, so much of the music and entertainment is directed at that clientele, yet you'll find a couple of Brit and, naturally, Irish bars too, with karaoke, international bars, quiz nights and discos.
