Puerto De Santiago holidays...
GENERAL
Laid-back Puerto De Santiago is situated on the rugged west coast of Tenerife. It forms part of the popular tourist development that includes Los Gigantes and Playa de la Arena. The resort is more peaceful than its neighbours and less developed, retaining much of its authentic Canarian charm. The resort is framed between the sea and dramatic volcanic terrain, and centred around a small, lovely harbour and beach.
Suitable for...
Puerto De Santiago holidays are well suited to families and couples looking for a sunny, friendly and affordable resort for a relaxing beach break in the Canaries. The resort is a shade more than an hour from the airport, which is well worth it for your own peaceful retreat!
Volcanic beaches...
Puerto De Santiago has a small picturesque beach, sheltered from the elements by hills on either side. It enjoys a tranquil atmosphere and a more traditional way of life. Most beach bums on holiday in Puerto De Santiago take the five minute trek south to the stunning Blue Flag-awarded beach of Playa de la Arena. This is a long, broad stretch of dark volcanic sands, backed by lush gardens and palm trees, plus restaurants and bars.
Things to do...
There are many activities to enjoy in the region including water sports, snorkelling and scuba diving, plus dolphin and whale spotting trips. The Canaries are fantastic for these excursions thanks to their Atlantic position. If you're on a family holiday in Puerto De Santiago you'll find various action-packed water parks within easy reach that kids will love. The wonderful Loro Parque zoo is nearby, which features dolphin, whale and parrot shows and houses a huge range of wildlife.
Day trips...
If you feel like getting active, you can hike to the soaring top of Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak. Teide is surrounded by a beautiful National Park, perfect for hiking. You can also hop on a boat to the picturesque neighbouring island of La Gomera.
Food & drink...
As Puerto De Santiago has retained some of its traditional fishing village way of life, there are some excellent and very affordable local seafood restaurants. Fresh fish is brought into the harbour every day. Dining is varied and there are a few laid-back bars where you can grab a beer or a glass of wine after a hard day sunbathing! For a wider selection of cuisines or a lively night out on the town, check out the neighbouring resorts.
