Seville holidays...
GENERAL
Kissed by sizzling sunshine, blessed with an astonishingly diverse history and spiced with Andalucian flair, Seville is the greatest city in southern Spain.
Drawing from European and Arabic influences, Seville conjures up images of flamboyant flamenco dancers, orange trees, spiralling minarets and Gothic facades, bullfighting and sumptuous architecture. Seville is southern Spain at its finest. Don't miss out!
Historic treasures of Seville...
Seville's timeless old city, on the banks of the Guadalquivir river, is where its three grandest monuments can be found, all of which are essential viewing on a holiday to Seville.
Built on the foundations of the al-Moharrem Great Mosque, the colossal Cathedral is the most famous attraction in the city. Among the most impressive buildings in Spain, Seville Cathedral is a masterwork of Gothic architecture and one of the world's largest churches. Completely unmissable for any holiday to Seville.
Next to the Cathedral lies the bell tower, La Giralda. Arguably the most beautiful sight in Seville, the Giralda was the minaret of the former mosque and features a distinct Moorish style based on the Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech. The panoramic views of the city and cathedral from the top are sublime.
Finally, next to the Cathedral and Giralda sits the majestic 14th century Alcázar Palace. Built by the monarch Pedro the Cruel, this is one of the finest examples of Mudéjar (Moors who stayed in Iberia after it was retaken by Christians) architecture in the world. It is the oldest royal residence in Europe still in use.
Seville's top gallery is the Museo de Bellas Artes, which houses an outstanding collection of Spanish and European artwork.
Eating out...
The heart of Andalusia, Seville enjoys one of the finest gastronomic scenes in the country, incorporating a diverse range of Spanish and North African influences. Culinary highlights include spicy Moorish lamb stews, traditional cured hams and fresh fish from the Guadalquivir estuary.
AndalucÃan nightlife...
More than just a historic city, Seville's nightlife is as spicy as the flamenco and as colourful as fiesta. From authentic tapas bars to some of Spain's most cutting edge nightclubs, you'll find every type of nightspot in the city. Frequent the traditional bars of Santa Cruz and you may witness an impromptu flamenco performance, while Plaza Alfalfa and Calle Betis have the highest concentration of trendy bars and clubs.
