Hit the stunning slopes of Zell am See...

GENERAL

Enjoying a stunning location on the edge of glittering Lake Zell, the captivating village of Zell am See is one of Austria's premier ski destinations. Hidden amongst the soaring peaks of the Central Alps, Zell am See is around 90 minutes' drive south of Salzburg , and is surrounded by some of the most dramatic scenery in Austria, including the colossal 3,797m high Grossglockner, the nation's highest mountain. Steeped in history, the village was founded by monks in the 8th century, and skiers have been flocking here for over 100 years.

Ski holidays to Zell am See are best suited to intermediates, although there are numerous slopes for beginners and experts. Families and snowboarders are well catered for and the season runs from late November to mid-April.

The most famous skiing offered on a holiday to Zell am See is on the mighty glacier of Kitzsteinhorn, which stands 3,203 metres high and is skiable all year-round with the exception of peak summer. There are nearly 60 runs in total in the resort, with around 20 suitable for those just starting out, whilst the most challenging slopes for experienced skiers can be found in the winding 1,965m high Schmittenhöhe region. Freestylers and boarders will find an impressive six terrain parks, as well as a thrilling half-pipe. There are several ski schools in the resort.

Other activities you can enjoy on a Zell am See holiday including mountain-trekking and hiking, tobogganing, Nordic walking and ice climbing, whilst ice skating is sometimes available on the lakes. A popular year-round destination, the lush, green beauty of Zell am See is revealed in the summer and activities such as water sports on the lake, mountain biking, golf, horse riding, tennis and mountain climbing are available. The resort is home to a fun park that kids will love and several relaxing spa centres.

Zell am See has a huge range of shops, from sporting outlets to traditional Austrian craft stores, via numerous fashionable clothing boutiques. There is a lively aprÚs-ski scene in the resort with plenty of varied restaurants, authentic beer cellars, wine bars, glitzy cocktail bars and buzzing nightclubs.
